1. Guard Holes
“guard hole” is a type of positioning hole commonly seen on circuit boards. As shown in the figure above , there is a large hole in the center surrounded by 6-8 small holes, resembling a general with several guards protecting him, hence the name “guard hole” .
2. Back Drill Hole
Back drill hole, also known as controlled depth drilling, is used to remove the conductive via stubs in the barrel of a PCB through-hole. As part of the through-hole, the stub can cause serious signal integrity issues in high-speed designs. It is the pinnacle of stacked hole technology and represents the highest level of craftsmanship in stacked hole production. However, the processing cost is too high, and few design companies adopt this type of layering for design .
